Fresh Talent Competition Seeking Younger Artist Submissions

By: Jordan Shade

The Fresh Talent Quest is looking for young, talented
musicians/artists, who want to demonstrate their singing capabilities,
during the next three months until the first week in April.

Performers fall under these categories: solo, duets, teen bands or
groups. They are required to do an up to 20 minutes set consisting of
four songs max.

The first round will begin on Saturday, Feb. 8th, with solo performers
and duets being judged at Tug’s Taphouse.

This will be the eighth season this competition has been happening. It
is expected to continue for many more years to bring new and upcoming
talent to the Okanagan area.

Dennis Chaykowski, who was also the sound man for the Penticton Peach
Festival, and is now focused on other music and art priorities, is the
producer of the competition.

Last year’s winners were Sudbury Beach from Penticton, a bunch of
friends from high school who decided to practice hard and enter the
local competition.

The deadline is Thursday, Jan. 31st. If you are between the ages of 9
to 18 years, please submit your song choices. For more details, email
cmelive@yahoo.com or call (250) 460-2221.

As an added bonus, the winners will have the opportunity to perform at
the Peach Festival at the beginning of August.
